Pupils complete a STAR Reader assessment which generates a ZPD.
The library is categorised into reading levels so, knowing their ZPD, pupils are able to choose from a variety of books with the appropriate levels of enjoyment and challenge.
Once the book is completed, pupils complete a short quiz to measure their understanding.
Why does reading matter?
There is a growing body of evidence which illustrates the importance of reading for pleasure for both educational purposes as well as personal development.
Evidence suggests that there is a positive relationship between reading frequency, reading enjoyment and attainment.
Research is accumulating that suggests that the number of children reading for pleasure is decreasing (5% a decade).
